Design An Emoji Skateboard

Make Your Skateboard Smile

Every skateboard deserves to be characterized and with an emoji skateboard your personality can match perfectly with your ride. With the thousands of faces, shapes, and iconic symbols used in the technology world everyone recognizes those distinct silly faces instantly. Words are catalysts for creating meaning but so are symbols and facial expressions. On any skateboard, longboard, or grip tape change those boring words into something creative that everyone knows. Design an emoji skateboard to ripen the character of your board.

Create Your Own Skateboard Story

Remember your first half pipe or when your friends dared you to try a huge ramp and you caught mad air? Well those memories are part of your skateboard journey and even your board wants to be a part of it. With an emoji skateboard, tell the tale of those electric feelings you had landing your first kickflip! With the personal customizer uploading an emoji is simple while you can add colorful effects to the background. Fades, wall paper backgrounds, personal designs can be the cherry on top to your character board.

Emoji Skateboard Classics

We all know the kissy face, poop man, and those crazy cat eyes all too well. Those are the classics but with new emojis coming out every year the more creative you can get with your board. When designing your own emoji skateboard you already might have a favorite emoji in mind. Make sure to search before you create because you might have missed a new addition. With emoji skateboards vibrant colors attract lots of attention so when using the customizer check out contrasting colors to your icon. Make a funny story with emojis and add multiple faces to provoke your own skateboarding story. Emojis also act really well as gag gifts to skater friends. Try designing your own emoji skateboard with those thoughts in mind and see what your creative side brings you.

Custom Skateboard Designs Inspired by Ray’s Pool

Ray’s Pool A San Diego Legend

Ray’s pool has been a hot spot for local San Diego skaters for the past 15 years. While skaters shred, spectators can watch from the sides of the pool or from the top of the roof that over looks the pool. Ray’s house and pool is a pretty sweet spot that is at a high vantage point of San Diego. Back in the day, before there were skate spots, this was where locals would gather to skate. Ray is putting the home on the market, marking an ending to a San Diego skating era. To celebrate the past decade and a half, Ray hosted a birthday party for local skate legend Old Man Andy. It has been the last big skate gathering at the pool since the beginning.

Ray agishi

A Bit About Ray

Ray was born and raised in San Diego. He is a bit of a local legend himself. Along with skating, Ray is into surfing and fishing. Currently, he is working on a new big project. He is the owner of the Pacific Beach restaurant Izakaya PB. This is a great spot for good eats and the freshest sushi in town. You can often find Old Man Andy and other local skaters having lunch and dinner at this spot near the beach. Not only can Ray shred the surf, he can also craft a really mean roll and cook up some soulful ramen. He keeps true to his Japanese roots through his craft of food.

Custom Skateboard Pool Theme

We put together a collection of custom skateboard designs to share with you. These custom skateboards are inspired by Ray and his pool. As you can see by the theme, the fusion of California and Japanese culture has fuzed together for these designs. You can find this collection of custom skateboard designs along with others at WhateverSkateboards.com’s browse section.

Custom Skateboard with Skateboard Quotes

Pick The Ultimate Skateboard Quote

Skateboarding is a lifestyle. It has transcended the concrete bowls into its own culture with fashion, entertainment, and super stars. A lot of inspiration as risen out of the world of skateboarding, and we can learn some things from the big skate stars that have helped skateboarding evolve over the years. Here are some inspirational skateboard quotes to feed your need to skate, and to help you get started on creating a custom skateboard with your own skateboarding quotes!

Classic Skateboard Quotes

Here is a collection of some memorable skateboarding quotes from some skaters.

“Life is a lot like skateboarding.” – lil Wayne “I consider skateboarding an art form, a lifestyle and a sport. ‘Action sport’ would be the least offensive categorization.” – Tony Hawk “Skateboarding teaches you how to take a fall properly. If you try to kickflip down some stairs, it might take you thirty tries – and you just learn how to take a tumble out of it without getting hurt.” – Bam Margera “My whole life has been the skate life. I don’t really remember doing anything besides skateboarding.” – Ryan Sheckler “When I was a kid, everywhere I went people said I should be a model, but I was more into skateboarding.” – Daria Werbowy

Custom Skateboard Quote Designing Tips

So when designing your custom skateboard, there are a few things to keep in mind. When you design the board, always keep in mind the trucks on the bottom side of the board. The trucks will be a part of the design once it is installed, unless this is a board that will hang on your wall. So… if you are putting a skateboarding quotes on the board, make sure it is on either sides of the trucks or in-between the four indicated dots on the template. Or else, you may get a board that looks funked up.

Some Short Skateboard Quotes

You could always put a long skateboard quote on the board, but sometimes a shorter one will do. Shorter skateboard quotes are easier to incorporate in to the design when creating a custom skateboard. With less words, you can play with the text size and placement of the text. This makes it easier to add style to your design and helps with creating a bold impact. Here are some short skateboarding quotes that are good for this type of custom skateboard design. “Skate or Die”, “Keep on Rolling”, “Go Skate Day”.

A Real Hoverboard Skateboard That Skaters Can Actually Shred

Whatever Skateboards is stoked to announce a real hoverboard skateboard that skaters can actually shred. The limited edition hoverboard skateboard launched today, just in time for October 21st, 2015. The Whatever Skateboards hoverboard skateboard has every detail perfected to pay homage to the original hoverboard and one of the greatest skateboarding scenes in pop culture. Get ready to shred through time on this hot pink neon speed demon with a custom grip design so rad it might get zapped back to the 80’s. But don’t worry; this hoverboard can always get back to the future. The magnets on the bottom graphic are lined up with the truck mounts to get 1.21 gigawatts of steez. This is a gourmet, limited edition, hoverboard skateboard only by Whatever Skateboards.

This hoverboard skateboard doesn’t hover but it is in the original shape and is one crazy skateboard deck. Clocking in with a 32″ length and 8.5″ width this is sized to ride. The nose is flat, wide, and round like a true old school 80s skateboard and the tail has that distinctly “vintage future” appeal with a hard square cut tail. The hoverboard deck is made from pro quality maple for a legit ride. The grip is Whatever Skateboards custom printed Jessup grip tape. It all comes together with the hot pink deck and the top graphic on the grip. The bottom graphic has strategically placed hoverboard magnets so the trucks line up perfectly. A complete setup comes with matching green Paris 180mm Trucks. The final tip of the hat from this glorious unicorn of a skateboard is in the wheels: of course hoverboard skateboards roll around on Cult Classics 66mm skateboard wheels. For those strict to canon there are no footstraps or handlebars.

The new hoverboard skateboard is at Whatever Skateboards but hurry up, the supplies are limited and this is a special edition skateboard. And while this may be back from the future the hoverboard skateboard makes the perfect present for any skater. This is one of the best new skateboarding gifts for the holidays and this is the hoverboard skateboard that skateboarders have always wanted. No road trip through skateboarding time and space is complete without the new Whatever Skateboards hoverboard skateboard. It is always recommended to wear a helmet and protective gear even when riding a hoverboard. Please take safety seriously and always be aware of DeLoreans on the road.

Design Your Own Penny Board Style Short Cruiser Skateboard!

Design Your Own Penny Board Style Skateboard Deck!

Design Your Own Penny Board We’ve got the short cruiser skateboard shape that you want and we even let you design your own penny board on our world-famous Green Tail Skateboard and our 2016 skateboard models (no spoilers)! One shred sesh on this penny style skateboard equipped with cruiser style wheels and trucks and you’ll be hooked on the mini skateboard craze. We popped out the tail on ours to give a little more action than a traditional short cruiser and we also widened the deck overall for larger riders. But don’t worry, we have both a 25″ and an even shorter 22″ if you’re looking to go ultra mini. Mob alley cracks with impunity and surf the concrete sea like a salty old sailor on these little penny board style decks.

What Does a Penny Board Style Skateboard Ride Like?

Besides being under 28 to 30 inches with a fishtail shape one of the primary defining characteristics of this skateboard deck shape is the type of gear typically mounted on it. Most short cruisers, including our Green Tail series, come equipped with gear you’d expect to find on a slightly different style skateboard based on the size. Most penny style skateboards use large wheels than you’ll find on a traditional skateboard and often have gear that’s more commonly found on longboards or cruisers. Its no wonder penny boards ride different than most other skateboards: with that kind of control on that small of a skateboard deck you can get an awesome ride. You get the control and grip from a larger longboard but the zippy maneuverability you’d expect from a classic fishtail shape. Our penny board style short cruiser skateboard Green Tail are an improvement on some of our older mini shapes and this size remains one of our favorites, particularly with the ability to slide and pump on flatland. Paris Trucks Skateboard Wheels

Plastic Skateboard VS Wood Skateboard?

Until we find a better way to make truly quality skateboard we make all of our penny boards out of wood, none of our boards are made out of plastic. We use traditional or fine grain grip on the top so you can get more control as you skate without the intense coarse grip for a downhill skateboard. While we do like formed skateboard tops we’re not huge fans of the way plastic skateboards have less grip than wood skateboards. Another downside to plastic skateboards that caused us to choose wood for our mini skateboards was the overall deck feel. At that tiny size the bounce is great but too much bounce can be intense even on the boardwalk when riding one of these. Plastic skateboards are fun but in our opinion if you’re getting a professional skateboard deck you should get wood.

Shortboards Are Perfect For Designing Your Own

Unlike a longboard a penny skateboard style skateboard deck gives a smaller space for the graphic design so the actual graphics on the smaller boards create a great focal point. This cat skateboard, (Editor: technically a laser cat skateboard bro), gives focused and clear graphic able to be seen at a glance. Longboard designs frequently require the eye to travel up and down the board but if you design your own penny board the graphic can be focused and centered.

Our Finest Short Cruisers, Just For You!

Of all the skateboards in the office fleet the penny board style skateboards is one of the ones we’ve checked out the most. If you’re interested in being able to design your own penny board the Green Tail series was engineered to be the perfect choice! If you like the look of the 25 inch Green Tail series but want something even tinier we have a 22″ model that’s smaller and lighter. Our 22″ Green Tail is also made out of wood for extra durability, no plastic cruisers here! Want to design other shapes? Take a look at our other custom shortboard skateboards and custom mini skateboards! Be on a lookout for our new skateboards, some of the newest shapes will be penny board style!

Design Your Own Old School Skateboard And Old School Longboard

We know what if feels like to want to design your own old school skateboard so we made the very best old school skateboard decks and old school longboards around. Here are some of our best deck shapes to custom design with a timeless appeal. At Whatever Skateboards we’re all about designing your own old school skateboard, from the pinnacle of the park popsicle to the laziest longboard cruiser. Like any silver screen masterpiece the test of time has even improved of the classics with modern science, (read: fiberglass). Old school skateboarding style without riding like something from history class (Editor: *groan*). We’ve taken the time to break down some of the best “design your own” old school skateboards and old school longboards we have on our site.

Design Your Own Old School Skateboard – Skateboarding 101

Custom Old School Skateboard Image 1 Custom Old School Skateboard Image 2

If there is one old school skateboard that took over to defined skateboarding and solidified itself as the official “skateboard” shape is it this iconic textbook shape. Nothing says old school quite like… well… a classic skateboard. One of the best formats to design your own this pro model also is made of top quality wood so you’ll be able to shred in steez. Gripped up with Jessup and ready to roll nothing says gourmet like a classic popsicle deck.

The Oversized Skateboard – Skateboarding 201

Oversized Street Skateboard Image 1 Oversized Street Skateboard Image 2

Some people insist bigger is better and in a nod to the early days we’ve gone ahead and carved this massive hunk of old school wood pushing madness. Shaped in an older style with modern cuts the actual size of the board is much bigger than the old school style street decks. Built for ancient beasts and those who need a little more canvas for their graphics this is one of the decks we’ve finally grown up enough to mash around.

The Dart – Your Friendly Old School Longboard

Old School Longboard Image 1 Old School Longboard Image 2

No trip down old school skateboard lane is complete without longboarding and no old school longboarding sesh is complete without a Dart pintail style. The original beach shape and preferred throughout Southern California for ages the surf style pintail give you that uplifting bouncy ride you remember. Pop up and down to some tunes on your Walkman and throwback to when when tails were out of fashion. Cooler than a skinny tie in a class picture this amazing old school beach style cruiser looks great with custom beach themed designs.

Official Whatever Skateboard Old Skool Skateboard

Old Skool Skateboard Image 1 Old Skool Skateboard Image 2

This is our official slice of old school skateboarding and this shape is sweeter than summer vacation with a deck shape shimmering somewhere between cruiser, shortboard, and fishtail. When you tell your grandkids on their hoverboards about skateboarding this is the shape you are talking about. We took inspiration from all of our favorites so you feel like you’re riding every style of old school skate at once. Fishing for that monster fin in back? You’ll catch it. Want to get groovy with the sweeps? Jack up on some risers or use the carved wheel wells to snap in some reverse kingpins and throw peace signs on the boardwalk. Need to pop? The tail catches. Monster hill? Use the extra length we threw in with a slightly wider pocket in back. This is a go to daily driver and a dependable skate. The wide shape is awesome for custom old school designs and graphics and is the definitive upgrade for all old school skates.

SK8 KAMP Burning Man Kickstarter 2015 – Black Rock City Skatepark!

SK8 KAMP Burning Man Kickstarter 2015 is live! Support a Skate Park on The Playa in Black Rock City!

SK8 KAMP 2015 Kickstarter is Live! Go go backers gooooooooooo! SK8 KAMP is a skater’s dream and without a doubt one of the best skateboarding Kickstarters of the year. Each year at Burning Man a crew of crazed skaters takes a working skatepark they built out to the desert for some seriously dustblasted sessions. The effort is enormous and the results are always impressive, even if you aren’t seeking your skating spirit animal out at the burn. Check the SK8 KAMP 2014 Montage highlight reel to see footie from last year’s skatepark along with some of the black & blue ribbon winners from the infamous SK8 KAMP bruise count.

Now You Have SK8 KAMP FOMO, There Is Only 1 Cure

Now that you’ve seen SK8 KAMP (and backed? you backed it right? GO BACK IT AND COME BACK) you have have a serious problem: you need everything about the SK8 KAMP 2015 Skatepark in your life. But since you already backed it you know there is a cure for your hardcore FOMO and that is the ridiculous prize for the $100 package that only SK8 KAMP can do. For the small price of those one hundred dollars the SK8 KAMP 2015 Team is letting people fulfill their ultimate fantasy of living within a skatepark by letting people squat overnight under their work. SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK.

How Do I Know Its Real and Not Just Existing In An Existential Burning Man Dreamscape?

We know it seems like a group hallucination but you’re not crazy and its definitely real. The meticulous injury count over the past 5 years as SK8 KAMP has grown is a testament the reality of bailing in the desert. And we quote:

“Here’s an injury count from our previous years (don’t worry, we take good care of our injured Sk8ers with our Kamp wheel chair and ice packs):
2011 – 1 throat hit/injured by skateboard, 1 lip split open, 3 sprained ankles, 232 bruises
2012 – 1 broken arm, 1 injured shoulder, 1 broken leg, 543 bruises
2013 – 1 broken arm, 3 twisted ankles, 367 bruises
2014 – 1 broken arm, 1 sprained ankle, 1 sliced lip, 162 bruises (we’re way down, what is happening here?)”

SK8 KAMP Bruise 2015 - Unicorns Are Real
Unicorns are real.

With such a huge decrease in bruises the SK8 KAMP team is funneling their extra ice pack money in to making sure things are extra crazy this year. They’re power packing along with DUSTFISH and Sextant camps to Voltron up and create DUSTFISH Village. Location is 6:30 & Esplanade near Center Camp and in the primetime zone. With such an epic camp comes a need for funds and SK8 KAMP is only asking for a small amount to make it happen. Every year they go to huge lengths to create the unicorn of skate parks and this year will be the biggest unicorn yet.

Everybody loves new features, and we’ve got a great one you’re going to love for your next custom skateboard or custom longboard. With this new feature you can easily customize cool patterns with combinations of background colors or fades, to really make some rad looking designs.

New Background Patterns Feature

The new custom patterns features are super easy to use. First, you can find the new custom patterns in the first step in the desktop customizer (not available on mobile yet). Click the button for “background patterns” and the pattern list will load up. Simply click a thumbnail to select a pattern and it will load in. Give it a moment as it may take a few seconds for it to crunch the graphics to make them editable for your custom colors of choice. Once the pattern is loaded, you can change the color of the pattern lines to any color you want. Then, you can change the background color or even do color fades for the background to make a really cool unique pattern that nobody else has! Here’s a shot of the new pattern menu and a custom “Chevron” pattern being put onto a Carerra longboard.

Cool Patterns for Skateboards

As time goes on we’ll be adding lots more cool patterns to the library available in the app. Right now we’ve got a great set to start with, including some optical illusions, some cool grunge floral designs, classic stripes and polka dots, chevrons, and lots more. Also you can find some non-customizable, full-color patterns premade in the “Background Images” menu under the “patterns” category, stuff like different plaid patterns, etc. But, with those you can’t set the colors to exactly how you want them, like you can with the new background patterns.

Want a New Pattern?

If there are patterns you LOVE and want to see in our patterns library, please let us know! We’ll do our best to add them. If you have a black and white copy of your pattern at 3000px or higher, you can even send it to us and we might be able to add it to our app for you to use. SK8 KAMP Burning Man Kickstarter – Making a Skate Park on The Playa!

UPDATE: SK8 KAMP 2015 Kickstarter Is Live!

SK8 KAMP Needs SK8 Backers, Get a Skate Park Built At Burning Man!

SK8 KAMP Kickstarter is Live! Get on it! It’s well known fact we’re a huge fan of skate based Kickstarters around here and SK8 KAMP got on our radar from some of our fellow skate masters up the Bay Area (SF represent). What’s SK8 KAMP? A skate park at Burning Man. BOOM. MIND BLOWN. They’ve got some awesome rewards for backers but of course the most important reason to back rad ramps on The Playa is for some good old fashioned skate karma. Could a skatepark for BRC be any more awesome? WAIT…

IT GETS MORE AWESOME. They Donate Their Ramps!

Just when you thought you were going to max your skate karma points backing this beaut of a Kickstarter this concept you find out this has been going on for years and in the past they’ve donated the ramps to Town Park in Oakland! Yessssssssssssss. Shred & support, it doesn’t get any better than that. Even if you’re not going to Burning Man this is still a rad Kickstarter and deserves some serious backing.

Is This Legit?

YEP. The hosts of SK8 KAMP have been doing it for years. Any Kickstarter willing to outright list previous years injuries from skating is not screwing around. In case you didn’t catch some of that on their page:

“Here’s an injury count from our previous years (don’t worry, we take good care of our injured Sk8ers with our Kamp wheel chair and ice packs): 2011 – 1 throat hit/injured by skateboard, 1 lip split open, 3 sprained ankles, 232 bruises 2012 – 1 broken arm, 1 injured shoulder, 1 broken leg, 543 bruises 2013 – 1 broken arm, 3 twisted ankles, 367 bruises”

As you can see this operation is so legit they even budget for ice packs and wheelchairs. With your help and support this year they will even be able to shatter their all-time bruises record with more skates and more features. Even if it is a temporary sk8 oasis in the desert it seems like SK8 KAMP might be one of the best skateparks on Earth. Go forth and back it!

Preview: Sprucing Up the Office with a Sick New Mural

Paint Whatever the F You Want.

We’re always looking for ways to make our PB office more enjoyable, inspiring, and good spirited.  We’re also always trying to embody our own mission to let people design whatever the F they want, and not just on skateboards.  Especially when it comes to additions to the office, we want them to be saturated with our own inspirations and values, and NOT dry and corporate feeling- feelings that suck from past boring jobs that many of us know too well and now like to avoid like the plague.

One of the new projects we’ve started is transforming what was an ugly white wall with a great new hand painted mural.  The mural depicts James Kelly doing a badass heel side slide on a downhill board.  The picture is sick, and as soon as it’s done we’ll post all of the final photos and credits as soon as we get them.  It’s already looking great and brings an awesome added energy to walking thru the front door every day.  We’re so excited for it we couldn’t even wait until it’s done to blog about it :)

By a Skater, for Skaters

The mural is being painted by our #Whatever sponsored downhill skater and resident artist, Suigo Revilla.  We told him to paint whatever the F he wanted, and this is what he chose.  He has both chosen this photo (one of his favorites) and is painting the entire mural by hand.

Stay tuned for our upcoming events at our PB location to check it out in person. :)
